Formerly known as the World Games Stadium, completed in 2009, it is used mostly for football matches and it hosted the main events for the 2009 World Games.
It can be used for various events such as track and field competitions (it has a 400-meter running track certified by IAFF), soccer games (it has a soccer field approved by FIFA), concerts, as well as opening and closing ceremonies.
The main design concepts of the National Stadium are “open sports field,” “urban park,” and “spiral continuum.” From a floor plan perspective, the National Stadium resembles a question mark with an opening that faces the World Games Blvd. The boulevard is accessible for both athletes and spectators. The National Stadium blends in with the surrounding greenery and water-filled park. The roof is supported by 32 steel pipes in a spiral pattern that lend the area a sense of flow and dynamic aesthetics.
